To test commission assignment without doing a real payment you will need to manually add a payment.
To add a payment manually, go to ~wmtsystemurl~/admin/members in the members area and click on the billing history icon for the member you want to add commission for.
In the popup click the Add Payment link.
Enter a payment amount and date. For Type and Transaction ID you can enter anything or leave blank as it doesn't affect test results.
To apply the payment visit: ~wmtsystemurl~/admin/applyaffiliatepayments.php
A member cannot belong to more than 1 membership. Instead, you can setup so each membership has different content.
Then make the membership that the member upgrades to include all the content from the member's original membership.
You can do this by setting up content groups and attaching them to content.

Go to Advanced Features Step 2
Click Affiliate Program to expand it then modify Allow Add Programs settings Step 3
Go to Memberships and click membership title to edit it Step 4
Click Affiliate Programs Settings to extract it then select from Allow Add Programs whether a member belongs to this membership will be able to add affiliate programs or not. Also you can control number of programs a member can add for his downline. Then click save changes
