Since members can only belong to one membership...

Question   Since members can only belong to one membership at a time does this mean that I cannot collect multiple monthly subscription payments using this system?



Answer    You can do one monthly (or annual, etc) subscription per a member (unique username/email). So if a member purchases Silver for $10/mo then later upgrades to Gold for $20/mo they would no longer belong to the Silver membership.  This limitation is regardless of if using direct payment or not.

However, there is the External Billing Tool which allows you to setup additional products.  These products can be anything, and are typically used for either upsale, or merchandise being sold.  Your situation sounds like you are wanting to upsale your members to purchase additional products and this appears like it would be the best solution.  Also, with external billing, you have the option to have each product have it's own genealogy and commission structure (so for example, if you only want people who buy the product to be able commission from members they refer that purchase the product).  You can also choose to either allow only members to purchase the product (like if doing an upsale) or to allow anyone to purchase a product (like if selling merchandise).

Q. If someone cancels their monthly subscription what happens to their account?

A. There is a setting under advanced features where you can choose to either have them suspended or to have them downgraded to another membership.  Also, you can specify to have them suspended on the date their subscription would have renewed instead of instantly.  The default for these 2 settings is to have them suspended instantly.

If they are suspended:
  • It will show suspended on the members page:/admin/members
  • When they login they will be redirected the the suspended page and asked to make payment to renew their membership subscription.

A. It can, but it doesn't have to.  You can have multiple payment buttons on the same page.

Q. When using direct payment option how can a person upgrade and have more then 1 membership?

A. A member cannot belong to more than 1 membership. Instead, you can setup so each membership has different content.
Then make the membership that the member upgrades to include all the content from the member's original membership.
You can do this by setting up content groups and attaching them to content.

Q. Is there away I can make a free membership so people can use the system free but they can't get paid when someone they refer pays for the system ?

A. With a Pro system there is the option when editing the membership to indicate that the membership is free.  If free, then you would need to see the id for the membership (look in the URL of the page when editing the membership and it will say ?id=*.  The * is the id for the membership).  Then, you would link to the join page using the link below putting the * for the membership and the USERNAME for the member that referred the new member.
